Mt Margaret Mission Civil Works Project

Contract:

Carey Mining completed a $1.2 million contract to upgrade roads and drainage at the Mt Margaret community

Project description:

Mt Margaret is located on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert, approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Laverton in the north eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.

A total of 31 people were employed on the project, of which eight were Carey personnel.

Scope of work:

Carey prepared 1.2 kilometres of existing dirt roads, laid road base material and sealed with bitumen. In conjunction with the road works was the construction of a stormwater drainage system that followed the road layout.

Contract services:

An important objective was to provide employment opportunities for community members on the construction team working on the project. Carey provided training for local indigenous people interested in assisting on the project and subsequently hired eight people.

Safety:

For the duration of the contract safety was demonstrated to be of a high standard with no lost time injuries reported.
